Indianapolis Indians  vs. Buffalo Bisons
Are We at Home?
By: Matthew Preslar

First, we would like to mention our gratitude to the Indians. This is the team that hit the infamous foul ball in Charlotte. We informed the Indians staff we were coming through on vacation and the circumstances involved. They generously sent their mascot to visit Katelyn in our seats during the game. Thank you very much!

As for VICTORY FIELD... this facility felt very similar to home, Charlotte. Indianapolis is a market much like ours: both cities host NBA basketball, NFL football, and AAA baseball. Both ballparks offer a city backdrop. Both are in view of NFL stadiums (Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis). In fact, during the game Katelyn leaned over and said she almost forgot that we weren’t sitting at the Knights game.

The park itself had something for everybody. There is an extensive play area from centerfield toward right. There are two berm seating areas in the outfield. There is a substantial bar in the left field corner. This park has many food and drink options under the covered concourse and a second deck in the main seating area around home plate. This was a solid ballpark, very crisp and tight.

And in the team store, we caught our first glimpse of a very tall Canadian...

TICKET VALUE 10/10

  • $9-15 average ticket price for seats
  • Good view from everywhere in the stadium
  • Upper deck seats for overhead view of field and glimpse of skyline
  • Standing room only and berm ticket options

CONCESSIONS  10/10

  • Refillable (all season) popcorn bucket for $8 - excellent value for locals!
  • Souvenir soda cup
  • Thirsty Thursday $3 pint draft beers
  • Several “combo” options at discount vs a la carte
  • Wide array of themed concession stands and specialty carts
  • Bar by berm with $11 cocktails in souvenir mason jars

FAMILY FRIENDLINESS  4/5

  • Kids zone area behind the outfield with games and inflatables & picnic tables
  • Spinning wheel for prizes
  • Berm seating area
  • Bark in the park dog night on right field berm (for dog fans)
  • Rowdie the mascot walking around interacting with fans
  • Nets taper to end of dugout, not complete protection from foul balls

ATMOSPHERE  9/10

  • Upper deck seating great views and still easy access to concourse
  • Some between-inning activities typical of AAA level ballgame
  • Music & interactive songs for crowd to stay engaged throughout the ballgame
  • Full color program for current homestand
  • Clean restrooms
  • A portion of concourse/walkway & right field berm was dedicated to "bark in the park". It was not possible to walk full concourse without entering that designated dog area.

CHARACTER  9/10

  • Indianapolis skyline view from seats  (similar to CLT but not as many tall iconic buildings)
  • Stadium within view of Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the NFL Colts
  • Archway at victory field entrance used multiple times throughout stadium (private party section & on scoreboard)
  • Large berm area in outfield
  • Some uniform and hat options available for purchase in team store representing MLB franchise Pittsburg Pirates
  • Did not notice any other recognition of parent club or tribute to past players (banners, signs, etc)
  • Victory Bell in outfield
  • Indian design in brickwork along concourse keeping with theme

PARKING  5/5

  • Stayed in hotel nearby and walked to stadium - did not park for game
  • Plenty of lots within 0.5mi to 1mi for $5-10
  • Lucas Oil Stadium (football) nearby with large paved lot, available for game day parking
